Help You Get Housed in East London

Getting housed in metropolises has always been a big problem for either local population or authorities. In London, several local authorities and housing associations have reached an agreement to forge a partnership organization named Choice Homes UK(CHUK) to promote housing service for customers. The East London Lettings Company (ELLC) is the name of the choice based Lettings service delivered by CHUK to many residents of East London. If you are planning to get housed or make a transfer, take action and check ELLC now.

The primary two questions that need to be clarified is what specific services can customers get from ELLC, and who can use the service.

There are three main services – Mutual Exchange, biding for a property and private possibility. The first two services are exclusive to registrants of Choice homes UK’ partners (Barking and Dagenham Council, East Thames, Family Mosaic, Hackney Council, Havering Council, L&Q, Newham Council, Redbridge Council or Waltham Forest Council), and you should have your registration number and memorable date to log into the website. If you don’t have a registration number, it’s easy to apply for one. Make sure all information filled are true and correct. As regards to private possibility, you do not need to be registered for housing with any of the ELLC councils or associations to apply for these properties. If you are interested in any properties, please contact the letting agent on the phone.

The content of the three services are as followings:

  1. Mutual Exchange. If you currently live in social housing (either owned by a council or a housing association) you can exchange your property with someone else who also lives in social housing. In this way you may be able to move much quicker than by waiting on registering list. You need to register your property, and then find a property that you want to exchange yours for. Click to see more information and guidance.
  2. Biding for a property. By ‘bid’ ELLC simply means to apply for a property. Before biding, choose an available property. Properties are advertised every Friday on this website and in the Choice Homes magazine (for Newham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Havering, Barking and Dagenham and East Thames). Properties are advertised every Wednesday for London and Quadrant and Family Mosaic housing associations. Then you can bid either by phone, internet, kiosks or text. You can also conduct a on the website to filter your target. Find more specific steps by clicking . But you should bear in mind that there are much more demands on social housing than supply, and thus you may wait for a quiet long time to win a bid.
  3. Private possibility. They sometimes have properties available for rent from some of the Accredited Landlords across east London. These properties appear weekly on the website and in the Choice Homes magazine under . Because you don’t need a registration number of any council, you can contact letting agents freely. Things are all between you and letting agents. ELLC warns you to check the accuracy of information about properties provided by landlords carefully.

You can learn more about local councils and housing associations in partnership on the side bar of the website. Besides, there are also some other schemes to provide more housing services to customers, such as National Home Swap Scheme and Housing & Employment Destinations. It is also so considerate of ELLC to notice the potential job problems coming with moving that it offers some for customers.
